Anna Elizabeth "Betty" Showalter

Anna Elizabeth “Betty” Showalter, 93, of Lebanon, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026. She was born in Lancaster on September 11, 1932, to the late Benjamin R. and M. Elizabeth (Bowman) Simmons.

Betty was a member of Church of the Redeemer in Hershey, where she served as a deacon and elder, chaired the music and worship committee, served as publicity chairperson, and participated in the Chancel Choir, Ringers of Jubilate, adult Sunday school class, and Bible study group. She was also a member of the Penn Central Conference of the United Church of Christ Communications Commission, a charter member of the Hershey Community Chorus, and a charter member of the Red Foxies group of the Red Hat Society.

Betty enjoyed spending time on the river with her family, music, photography, bible study, cooking, baking, and gardening. Above all, she loved spending time with family.

She is survived by her three sons, David M. Showalter, Thomas A. Showalter, husband of Kathleen, and Steven H. Showalter, husband of Sandra; three grandchildren, Melizza E. Showalter, Andrew T. Showalter, and Matthew A. Culbertson, husband of Christina; a great-granddaughter, Autumn Ridinger; a sister, Marilyn L. Gray; a brother Gerald. B. Simmons; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris E. Leaman; and brothers, Donald and David Simmons.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078. Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, as well as Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the start of the service. Interment will be at the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
