Ann Vaughan Riggenbach, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Country Meadows of Hershey.  Born Saturday, March 23, 1935, in Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Andrew Vaughan and Katharine (Washington) Vaughan and the sister of the late William Boyd Vaughan.  She was married to Henry Alan Riggenbach for over 59 years until his death on December 19, 2017.

Raised in the “Mayberry-esque” town of Bowling Green, VA, by her “Daddy” who doubled as Caroline County’s Superintendent of Schools for 42 years, and “Mother” who contained a nursery school in their home, it was nature that she too became an elementary educator after graduating from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA.  It was also at the school that she met then married Henry.  Henry’s job caused moves that turned this southern belle into a yankee in multiple states. Roots were planted in Lansdale, PA where she raised her family and enjoyed a short career as a medical secretary.  In retirement, she and Henry returned to their alma mater town and built their dream home in the Ford’s Colony golf community. There she enjoyed bridge clubs, the W & M quarterback club, playing piano, community service, traveling abroad, but mostly enjoyed being a resort like hub for family and friends to congregate and be spoiled.   Standard were her elegant, yet homey accommodations, signature foods, personal attention and witty engaging conversation.  She was undeniably fun!  Brookdale of Williamsburg, and most recently, Country Meadows of Hershey provided Ann with great comfort and care in her final years.  Whether north or south, home or abroad, Ann always left a memorable impression. She would surely read this account and remark, “I do declare. That’s the silliest thing I ever heard.”

She is survived by three children: John Boyd Riggenbach, of Mountville, William Vaughan Riggenbach, engaged to Suzie Huddleston of Mechanicsville, VA and Elizabeth R. Eckenrode, engaged to Donald Packard, of Elizabethtown.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren:  John Riggenbach, married to Sarah Riggenbach of Annville, Julia Schmitt, married to Ryan Schmitt of Dillsburg, William Riggenbach, married to Jessica Riggenbach of Virginia Beach, VA, Katharine Riggenbach of Delray Beach, FL, Brian Eckenrode, married to Amanda Dash of Lancaster, PA, Madeline Eckenrode of Worcester, MA, Seth Packard of Elizabethtown, and Justice Packard also of Elizabethtown.  She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren.

Private services and interment will be at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022, 717-367-1543.
