Ann Marie Colangelo

Ann Marie Colangelo, 94, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Born in Peckville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Bambush) Cheponis.

Ann met her husband of 60 years, Domenick, through a nursing school classmate who took her home for dinner. Ann and Dom were married in 1952 and lived most of their married lives in Belvidere, NJ.

Ann graduated from Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and began her career as a hospital nurse. In 1978, she graduated from Jersey City College with a Bachelor of Arts, allowing her to begin her career as a school nurse, which gave her the time to be involved with her busy family.

In retirement, Ann was always looking for ways to stay busy and involved. While living in NJ, she volunteered with the county domestic violence program and at the women’s shelter. She participated in Bible study, regular morning walks with her group of friends and attended spin class. She celebrated her 80th birthday “spinning into the 80s” with her group of spin class friends.

In 2012 Ann moved to Elizabethtown, PA to be closer to family. While in Elizabethtown, Ann proudly volunteered at the Hershey Medical Center NICU as a cuddler and was the Elizabethtown Food Bank scheduler. At Masonic Village she was a hospice volunteer, she welcomed new residents and was a front desk receptionist. She especially enjoyed her role as a Healing Touch provider.

Ann greatly valued connecting with others and was always trying to learn new things. She participated in a crochet group, book club, bible group, was a member of her church’s outreach committee, helped to start a contemplative prayer group, and hosted a Saturday night movie club in her apartment. Ann was an active member of the Sophia Inclusive Community and truly valued her Church community and the connections she made.

Above all, Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Surviving are her four children, Domenick III (Nadja), Cathy (Jay), Grace (Chuck), and Tony (Chris); eight grandchildren, Alana (Daniel), Logan (Katie), Jereme(Stephanie), Julee, Emily, Belle, Sophia and Domenick IV; and five great-grandchildren, Nolan, Eli, Mila, Madelyn, and Sage. She is preceded in death by her husband, Domenick W. Colangelo; her brother, Joseph Cheponis; along with her parents.

A celebration of life will be held on September 21 at 1:30 pm at Sell Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA. Ann loved color, so please wear your brightest colored clothing.
