Allen David Moyer, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, on October 11, 2024, at the age of 70. He was born on July 13, 1954, at Reading Hospital to Jeryl and Jean (Ackerman) Moyer.

Allen is survived by his devoted wife, Emily Moyer, and their two daughters, Elizabeth Moyer of Waterville, Maine, and Virginia Moyer and her wife, Lieutenant Grace Rovira-Melendez, United States Navy, of Yokosuka, Japan. He also leaves behind his brother, Daryl Moyer and sister-in-law, Sue Moyer, of The Villages, Florida, and nieces, Jessica Moyer of Annville, Pennsylvania, and Katie Moyer of Snohomish, Washington.

Raised in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, Allen was a proud graduate of Hamburg Area High School, Class of 1972, where he excelled academically. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in political science from Ursinus College in 1976, followed by a Juris Doctor from Widener School of Law in 1996. Allen dedicated his career to the legal profession, serving as an attorney and making a significant impact.

In his retirement, Allen and Emily embraced their passion for travel, exploring 24 countries from the ancient wonders of Egypt to the picturesque landscapes of Europe and the diverse beauty of the United States. Their summers were often spent creating joyful memories with friends in Cape May, New Jersey.

Allen was a respected member of the Masonic fraternity. He joined Vaux Lodge No. 406, of Hamburg, Pennsylvania, on September 18, 1978, where he quickly became an officer and served as Worshipful Master in 1985. He served as Secretary of the Lodge from 2011-2024 and as the Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Lodge of Research. Allen was appointed Worshipful Master of Elizabethtown Day Lodge No. 816 by the Grand Master of Masons of Pennsylvania in early 2024. Allen also served on the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania’s Committee on Jurisprudence.

His involvement in Freemasonry led him to work as an advisor to the young men of DeMolay International. An executive leadership team member since 1981, “Dad” Moyer served as executive secretary, and in various leadership roles over the course of several decades. For his work, he was honored with the DeMolay Legion of Honor, the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania’s HODEGOS award, and was created an Honorary Member of the DeMolay International Supreme Council.

Allen was a member of the Valley of Reading, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He served as Thrice Potent Master of the Reading Lodge of Perfection and was coroneted an Honorary Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33rd Degree, in Providence, Rhode Island, in 2008. He continued his service as the Hospitaller and on the Cathedral Association Board of Directors.

Allen's dedication extended to serving the York Rite of Freemasonry. He was High Priest of Corinthian Chapter No. 224, Royal Arch Masons; Thrice Illustrious Master of Goodwin Council No. 19, Royal and Select Master Masons; and Eminent Commander of Reading Commandery No. 42, Knights Templar. At the state-wide level, Allen served as Grand Almoner for the Grand Holy Royal Arch Chapter and on the Grand Commandery Committee on Jurisprudence. In recognition of his service, he was created a Knight York Cross of Honor in Penn Priory No. 6.

Allen found great enjoyment in his involvement with several small, invitational orders of Freemasonry: Past Sovereign and longtime Recorder of Constantine Conclave of the Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine; a warrant member of St. George Chapel No. 30; Past Worthy Master and honoree of the Chivalric Order of Knight Caritas by the Most Worthy Grand Master of the Commemorative Order of Knights of St. Thomas of Acon; appointed and served for three years as the Grand Preceptor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; held the VI° as warrant member and served a term as Deputy Master Mason of Donegal Church Assemblage of The Operatives; Past Master and the sitting Secretary of the Masonic Order of Athelstan, Susquehanna Court No. 74; honored as a Past Grand Standard Bearer by The Grand Master of Athelstan for England, Wales, and Provinces Overseas.

Allen was a member of: Gallicantu Tabernacle No. LXVV, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests; Erin Council No. 6, Knight Masons; Liberty Bell College No. 136, York Rite Sovereign College of North America; St. Reinold Conclave No. 48, Masonic Order of Pilgrim Preceptors; Masonic Village High Twelve Club No. 629, High Twelve International; Junto Council No. 537, Allen Masonic Degrees; the Grand College of Rites; the Philalathes Society; the Royal Order of Scotland; the Masonic Order of Bath; and Ubar Grotto, Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm; Victory Court No. 149, Order of the Amaranth; Triune Lodge No. 307, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

The void that Allen’s passing will leave in the world cannot be understated. His passion for learning and sharing knowledge, along with his deep commitment to the Masonic fraternity, enriched the lives of many. Allen’s life was filled with meaningful friendships and a boundless love for his family, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 4 p.m. at the Carpenter Chapel, Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation, 1244 Bainbridge Road, Elizabethtown, visitation hour begins at 3 p.m., the service at 4 p.m. with dinner to follow.
