Allen J. Baumbach, 87, of Middletown, passed away peacefully at home into his heavenly home and into the welcoming arms of his waiting Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 28, 2025. He was born November 2, 1937 to the late Carl V. Baumbach, Sr., and Audrey H. (Mathias) Baumbach. He was predeceased by his first wife, Charlotte R. (Keim) Baumbach and is survived by his second wife, of 43 years, Barbara A. (Buchanan) Baumbach.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Allen J. Baumbach, II and wife Tina, Lisa A. Butler and husband Brad, Lori P. Norris and husband Jamie and Sarah E. Baumbach; grandchildren, Matthew S. Baumbach and wife Shannon, Austyn R. Schaeffer, Lily A. Butler, Jacob A. Butler, and Katie E. Norris; and great grandsons, Samuel Allen Baumbach and Chester C. Watkins. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Doris A. Sharp, Danna O. Baumbach, Susan A. Reagan (Jim) and brother-in-law, John A. Buchanan. He is predeceased by his daughter, Pamela A. Baumbach and brothers Carl V. Baumbach, Jr. and Ned E. Baumbach.

Allen grew up in Royalton until the family moved to Middletown in the early 1950s. Allen graduated from Middletown High School, Class of 1955. From 1955 to 1965, he worked in communication and instrumentation at the former Olmstead Air Base in Middletown. With the closure of the air base in late 1964, Allen was hired by Honeywell Instruments in Harrisburg in the electronics division and worked there until 1975 when he and business partners Max Lampenfeld and Bill Roberts formed their own company, Tri-Star, Inc., an industrial controls systems company providing engineering, fabrication, and service to their customers. Allen was the proud president of Tri- Star Inc., retiring from full-time work in 1999. He felt blessed to have his son, nephew, (the late Larry Baumbach) and grandson Matthew keep the business running. This year marks the company’s 50th anniversary.

Family and friends were important to him. He was a faithful, loving and caring husband. He provided a good home for his family and was a good example of what a husband and father should be. He always made time for each of his children and grandchildren. Whether playing sports together or playing with their action figures with them, creating with Play-Doh, watching favorite television shows/movies together, attending school productions and sporting events or giving advice, he made it a priority to be there for them. He cherished his friendships.

He was a gifted man with many talents and interests. He was a collector of many things – baseball cards, antiques, model trains to name a few. He was an avid model steam train enthusiast and enjoyed operating his gauge 1 live steam trains at various events (Rough and Tumble Event at Kinsers, PA, the fall tractor show in Bangor, PA and Pennsylvania Live Steamers in Rahns, PA) with fellow train enthusiasts for the public to enjoy. Most Saturday mornings, from the mid -1980s until the early 2000s, Allen and his brother, Carl, could be found at the Big M looking for baseball cards. Then came his 3-D printing interest. He built his own printers and made many pieces, large and small, giving many of them away to family and friends. At Christmas time, we will have a special memory of him as we get out the nativity scenes and cookie cutters that he made for us.

He was a computer geek – building many of his own, teaching and helping his grandson, Austyn, to build his first computer as well as helping many others with his expertise.

As much as his family, friends and hobbies meant to him, God held first place in his heart and life.

Allen’s family would sincerely like to thank the nursing and other supportive staff of Residential Home Health and Hospice Care for the kind, loving and compassionate care you gave to him over the past nine months. You truly helped him and his family through his journey.
