Alfred "Al" T. Irvin Iii

Alfred “Al” Tyhurst Irvin III, 79, of Palmyra entered eternal life on June 26, 2023. He was the son of the late Alfred Tyhurst Irvin II and Vera (Coy) Irvin. He was the devoted husband to his wife, Joyce, for 54 years.

After graduating from Huntingdon High School, Al joined the State Police Academy where he then dedicated himself to a distinguished career as a State Trooper.  Cpl. Irvin enjoyed 36 years with the Pennsylvania State Police.  He was assigned to the mounted detail, working as a dog handler teaching safety education, and a valued cadet instructor at the Academy. Al was very instrumental in organizing the PA State Police Rodeo Reunions and enjoyed continued involvement as a retiree.  In his free time, he relished spending time with family and friends, riding his Harley, spending time in the outdoors and kayaking.  Al was a loyal supporter and active with the Boy Scouts as he guided both of his sons to the achievement of Eagle Scout.  Al derived immense joy and pride in his loving, dedicated marriage and commitment to his wife, Joyce, and their joint endeavors of the heart and enterprises.  He was also a devout member of Shope’s United Methodist Church in Hummelstown. Al was a wonderful man of unwavering values and a zest for life who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife: Joyce; children: Ty Irvin and wife Melissa & Nathan Irvin and wife Jordan; grandchildren: Baylyn & Logan.

A visitation will be held Monday July 3, 2023, at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home. 25 West Pine Street Palmyra, PA 17078 starting at 11:00 AM with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Al’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
