Richard W. Wilson

March 7, 1948 — April 28, 2021

Richard W. Wilson, 73, of Elizabethtown, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Born Sunday, March 7, 1948 in McVeytown, PA, he was the son of the late Albert L."Barney" and Janet L. (Dunmire) Wilson.

Growing up he lived on the grounds of Masonic Village. He was a 1966 graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School where he wrestled, ran track and is a member of the Wrestling Hall of Fame, High School Athletic Sports Hall of Fame, and the Lancaster-Lebanon Coaching Hall of Fame.  In 1970, Richard earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Elizabethtown College, where he also wrestled. He went on to teach in the Elizabethtown Area School District, as well as assistant coach for EASD wrestling.  Richard also taught for the State of Pennsylvania in both Dallas and Camp Hill Prisons. After retiring, he enjoyed watching TV and working as a timer, score keeper and announcer for EASD Wrestling. He was a US Army veteran of Vietnam, was a member of the American Legion, and was an avid Penn State fan. What he loved most was spending time with his family.

Richard is survived two children: Katie L. Coover and husband Chris of Elizabethtown, and Jason W. Wilson and wife Amanda of Bainbridge; four grandchildren: Samantha Spelgatti, Declan Brocious, Dayan Brocious and Randy Wilson; two great grandchildren: T.J. Shaffer and Ava Brocious; two sisters: Sandie Hamilton and Sonya Wilson, and one brother Rusty Wilson and wife Beth.

A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 at 7:00 PM. Visitation with family will be from 5:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will be private. The service will be live streamed at https://youtu.be/3YnMzAOjuPU beginning at 6:40 PM.
