John Nissley Buch, lifelong Elizabethtown resident and longtime public servant, died at home on September 3. He was 91.
John served for 24 years on the Borough Council including two terms as its president, on the Park Commission, and 11 years on the Water Authority Board.
He was involved in the formation of the Elizabethtown Music Foundation and appeared in its early productions. As a member of Christ Church he served on the consistory and sung in the choir. He was a 32nd degree mason.
After service in the Navy during WWII and graduation from Elizabethtown College, John was a teacher then principal in the Marietta School District. He went on to work at the PA Department of Education and then as Assistant Superintendent at Chester County Intermediate Unit.
He is survived by his wife Jane (Cunningham) of 67 years, daughter Jane Pitman and husband Ralph of Cleveland OH, daughter Maryann Snyder and husband Alan of Center Valley PA, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter Patricia and sister Mary Hoffman.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 247 South Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service. Private burial will be in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown, PA at the convenience of the family.
