Effie J. Murphy

Effie J. Murphy, 82, of Rheems, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. Born April 26, 1934 in Mount Joy, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Morgan) Boyd. She was married 65 years to Elmer J. Murphy, also of Rheems.

Effie was a member of the former Elizabethtown Church of God. She was retired from Bates Enterprises, where she worked for over 20 years. Effie coached softball in Rheems for many years and also ran ambulance for the Rheems Fire Company.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband Elmer; two daughters: Tammy Vuxta (Jeffrey) of Elizabethtown; Tina Eppley (Lee) of Elizabethtown; a son: Steven R. Murphy, Sr. (Jayne) of Marietta; eight grandchildren: Beth Voss, Rena Lehman (Lee), Kerry Harnish (Greg), Steven R. Murphy, Jr. (Tara), Brad Vuxta (Jackie), Alicia Hostetter (Mike), Travis Eppley and Dawn Young (Calvin), ten great grandchildren; a brother: Bob Boyd (Wanda) and a daughter in law Bonnie Noll.

Effie was predeceased by a son Elmer J., Jr.; a grandson Brian Murphy; six brothers and one sister.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown at 2:00 PM. Viewing will be from 1:00 until the time of service. Interment will take place in Henry Eberle Cemetery, Mount Joy.
